Job description

The Company:

An award-winning and highly established high-end but affordable home building company, due to continued growth are looking to hire an experienced Building Designer/Architectural Draftsperson to join their growing design and drafting team.

Purpose of the role:

The role is to initially design a portfolio of single-storey homes ranging from approx: 130m2 to 240m2 and then create master drawings for these designs.

The designs would also require a series of façade options and standard floor plan adjustment options. This stage would involve researching competitor offerings and collaborating with our architecture partners and in-house design team to come up with a product that makes us stand out from the crowd.

Once the new designs and master drawings are complete, the role would shift more towards a production drafting role where the master designs would be turned into working drawings for specific job sites. Master drawings would still require continued development after the initial design phase to incorporate feedback from the construction team and other regulatory changes as needed.

We are looking for someone who is proficient in Revit and has the ability to create their own drafting templates if needed. We are also looking for someone who has a good understanding of the NCC, Building Regulations and Small Lot Housing Code requirements or has the ability to seek out this information.

There is a lot of support available in this regard as we have a very experienced team who are able and willing to help.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
  • Design a portfolio of approximately 25 single-storey homes ranging from approximately 130m2 to 240m2 to suit standard greenfield lot sizes.
  • Turn concept designs into master drawings in Revit, ensuring designs meet the requirements of the NCC, Building Regulations and Developer Guidelines.
  • Design a series of façade options and standard 'plug in' floor plan options to suit the new portfolio, including creating separate master drawings to suit. The designs would also require a series of façade options and standard floor plan adjustment options. This stage would involve researching competitor offerings and liaising with the Senior Team and our architectural partner to come up with a product that makes us stand out from the crowd.
  • Produce working drawings for individual jobs from master drawings, incorporating site plan with feature survey and contour information, colours and electrical selections, engineering and energy rating details and any other further information requested by the building surveyor in order to receive a building permit.
  • Update drawings to incorporate variations as requested by the administration, estimating and construction teams.
  • Delegate production jobs to the external drafting team when required and check their work once complete.
  • Continual updates and improvements to master drawings and creation of new façade and floor plan 'plug in' options as needed.
  • Design and creation of new master drawings as needed.
Role Requirements:
  • Passionate about good design, with expertise in Drafting, Architecture, Interior Design, or Construction.
  • Experience within the volume residential building sector is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Building Regulation, Small Lot Housing Code and Liveable Housing and National Construction Code.
  • Creative problem solver, adept at thinking outside the box, excellent communication skills.
  • Highly organised with strong time management, driven, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Revit with the ability to set up drawing templates from scratch if needed.
The key benefits for you!
  • Market-leading and highly competitive salary package on offer for the right candidate
  • Ability to work in a very supportive team environment
  • An excellent company culture that promotes teamwork and collaboration
  • Genuine career progression opportunities and growth
