Construction Area Manager - South Brisbane Region

Job description

About the company:

Our client is a well-established, family-oriented residential home builder based in South East Queensland, with more than four decades of industry experience delivering high-quality homes to the local market. Known for building thoughtfully designed, turnkey single-storey homes with dependable workmanship, robust inclusions and fixed-price build certainty, they have established a strong reputation across Queensland. Their focus is on excellent customer outcomes, reliability, and consistent delivery of beautifully finished homes with average build values in the $350,000–$400,000 range

The Opportunity:

As a Construction Area Manager, you will play a pivotal leadership role overseeing residential construction activity in Brisbane’s southern suburbs. This role is not a hands-on trade position – instead, your core focus will be to lead, develop and support a small team of 2 Trainee Site Supervisors, helping them grow into highly capable site supervisors who consistently deliver quality homes.

You will ensure the efficient progression of multiple single-storey home builds through the construction cycle, foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and partner with internal teams and subcontractors to ensure excellent outcomes for homeowners and stakeholders alike.

Suburbs for context: (but not limited to)
Ipswich, Ripley, Jimboomba, Flagstone, Beaudesert, South Maclean

Key Responsibilities of the role:
  • Lead and manage residential construction activity across multiple sites in the southern suburbs of Brisbane
  • Guide, coach and mentor 2 Trainee Site Supervisors to develop full supervisory capability
  • Monitor performance and compliance across scope, schedule, quality, safety and client requirements
  • Support your direct reports with planning, trade coordination, problem-solving and daily operational challenges
  • Conduct regular site inspections and progress reviews
  • Ensure builds progress within program, budget and quality standards
  • Uphold WHS standards and QBCC compliance across all sites
  • Foster strong working relationships with trades, suppliers and internal teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and build outcomes
Role Requirements:
  • A current QBCC Site Supervisor Licence (low-rise) is essential
  • Proven track record and experience working within the volume home building or residential construction sector as a site supervisor/site manager
  • Strong leadership presence with confident communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple sites
  • Solid understanding of WHS legislation and practical site safety management
  • Carprentry trade background would be very advantageous
  • Builder's Licence would be very advantageous
  • Excellent IT and software experience

What We’re Looking For:

You're an experienced residential construction professional with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for developing others. You understand how to manage multiple residential builds at various stages and the importance of coaching junior leaders.

Essential Criteria:
  • Proven experience in residential construction leadership (Site Supervisor or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple homes through construction in a supervisory/manager role
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and team development skills
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving skills
  • Sound understanding of construction schedules, trade coordination and quality control
  • Solid WHS knowledge and QBCC requirements
  • Current valid driver’s licence
Desirable:
  • Experience specifically mentoring trainee supervisors or junior leaders
  • Experience with turnkey home build delivery
  • Prior exposure to volume or production-oriented residential builds
Why This Role Matters:

This is a strategic leadership position where your main focus is people development and site leadership oversight — not hands-on labour. You will have a direct impact on building the capability of the next generation of supervisors, strengthening site performance and ensuring homes are delivered safely, efficiently and to quality expectations.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
  • Minimal client variations – streamlined build process with strong systems in place
  • No direct client contact – allowing you to focus purely on construction leadership and team development
  • Step up into leadership – ideal for Senior Site Supervisors ready to transition into an Area Manager role
  • Mentorship focus – opportunity to pass on your knowledge and shape the next generation of Site Supervisors
  • Structured turnkey product – consistent single-storey builds with efficient delivery processes
  • Stable pipeline of work across Brisbane’s southern growth corridors
What’s On Offer:
  • Competitive salary reflective of experience
  • Leadership role with a genuine development focus
  • Long-term project pipeline in a stable residential construction environment
  • Supportive corporate culture and clear growth pathway
  • Structured environment with focus on quality outcomes
