Estimating Team Leader - Residential Home Building Company

The Company:

Working for one of Australia's largest and award-winning, highly established home building and development companies, due to continued growth are looking to hire an experienced home building Estimating Team Leader into their growing team to help manage the Sales and Production estimating team.

Current Team Structure:

Reporting to the Estimating Manager of the business, you will manage the day-to-day operations of the production estimating team, which is based offshore in the Philippines and consists of a team of 12, as well as the sales estimating team, based onshore, consisting of a team of 3.

Position Objective:

The Estimating Team Leader is responsible for leading and developing a team of estimators to deliver accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates across both sales and production estimating functions. The role plays a critical part in ensuring project cost accuracy, commercial success, and compliance with the company's high standards, while supporting continuous improvement of estimating systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of estimators to achieve performance, quality, and productivity targets.
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical support to ensure consistent estimating standards.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team culture focused on accountability, learning, and excellence.
Estimating & Cost Control
  • Prepare and review detailed cost estimates for residential building projects, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Oversee tender and contract pricing to ensure compliance with company policies and margin targets.
  • Review BOQs, material take-offs, and supplier/subcontractor quotes for accuracy and value.
  • Collaborate with Design, Construction, and Procurement teams to align project scope, design intent, and costs.
Process & Systems Management
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating workflows, templates, and systems (e.g., Business Craft).
  • Monitor and analyse market trends, supplier pricing, and cost movements to maintain up-to-date pricing databases.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline estimating processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Act as a key liaison between Estimating, Procurement, Construction, and Design teams.
  • Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders regarding pricing assumptions, scope, and variations.
  • Support company-wide initiatives that drive operational excellence and cost transparency.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Accuracy of estimates and cost data.
  • Timeliness of tender and contract documentation.
  • Team performance and development metrics.
  • Compliance with company estimating standards and procedures.
  • Contribution to process improvement initiatives.
Role Requirements:
  • Ideally, a minimum of 4-5 years of experience in a Production and Sales Estimating role or prior estimating team leader/management level experience within the residential construction sector. 
  • Proven leadership experience managing or mentoring a team
  • Thorough understanding of residential construction methods, materials and codes
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Business Craft) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
