Our client, a well-established medium-sized food manufacturing company based in East Melbourne, is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Manager to lead their small engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive leader with strong technical skills and a background in FMCG or food production.
The successful candidate will be trade-qualified—ideally as a fitter—and confident working closely with production, quality, and R&D teams to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient plant operations. This is a leadership position for someone who enjoys both strategic planning and rolling up their sleeves to get the job done.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support a small site-based maintenance team in a hands-on capacity.
- Drive preventative maintenance schedules and ensure high-quality, timely execution of engineering work.
- Collaborate with production, QA, and R&D teams to proactively resolve equipment and process issues.
- Manage capital installations, including project planning, scoping, procurement, and commissioning.
- Maintain up-to-date trade training compliance across the team.
- Contribute to new product development through planning and production trials.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- Ensure strict compliance with HACCP, GMP, and Australian standards.
- Proven experience in FMCG maintenance management.
- A trade qualification—fitter background preferred.
- Practical experience with production planning, maintenance scheduling, and capital works.
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to motivate and guide a small team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of quality and safety standards including HACCP, GMP, and regulatory compliance.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong problem-solving skills.
- Salary of $130,000 – $150,000 + super (commensurate with experience).
