A well-established Australian structural steel and light fabrication company is seeking an experienced Estimator with a sales focus to join its expanding team. The business supports projects across commercial, industrial, and modular construction sectors and is experiencing continued growth driven by a strong pipeline of work and a reputation for quality fabrication.

The Role
The position combines technical estimating responsibilities with client relationship management and sales support. The successful candidate will work closely with clients from initial enquiry through quoting and project delivery, ensuring solutions meet both technical and commercial requirements.
The role requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings, prepare accurate cost estimates, provide technical guidance, and contribute to ongoing business development within the fabrication sector.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Prepare quotations, tenders and cost estimates for structural steel and light fabrication projects
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and fabrication details accurately
• Provide technical guidance to clients regarding materials, finishes and fabrication methods
• Develop and maintain industry relationships to support new business opportunities
• Work collaboratively with workshop, drafting and procurement teams to confirm scope and pricing
• Follow up quotations and support sales targets and revenue growth initiatives

 
Skills and Experience
Essential

• Strong knowledge of relevant Australian Standards including AS 4100, AS/NZS 1554, and applicable coatings and finishes standards
• Demonstrated experience estimating structural steel, light fabrication, or modular construction projects
• Ability to confidently assess material, labour, logistics and handling costs
• Knowledge of protective coatings and finishes including hot-dip galvanising, powder coating and industrial paint systems
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach
• High attention to detail and strong organisational capability

 
Highly Desirable

• Established industry networks within modular construction, mining camps, transportables or general steel fabrication
• Familiarity with estimating or fabrication software such as Tekla, Bluebeam or AutoCAD
• Previous experience in sales, account management or business development within the fabrication sector
