Senior Backend Engineer – Data Platforms & Automation

We’re partnering with a pioneering technology firm that is reshaping how physical assets are measured, modelled, and optimised in real time. With a deep focus on intelligence at the edge, scalable data infrastructure, and clean backend architecture, this business is scaling rapidly and seeks a technical leader to strengthen its data systems foundation.

You'll work across cloud architecture, protocol-level data ingestion, and AI/ML integration while collaborating with a diverse team of front-end developers, product strategists, and applied data scientists.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Own and improve existing backend infrastructure and contribute to the design of scalable, secure, and high-availability systems
• Develop robust data ingestion pipelines and ETL processes for real-time and historical processing
• Engage with a wide range of I/O—from sensors and control systems to open APIs and external platforms
• Drive database design, data modelling, and integration of advanced analytics models
• Establish CI/CD and automation pipelines using best-in-class DevOps tools and Infrastructure-as-Code principles
• Collaborate with front-end and ML teams to deliver seamless and insight-rich digital experiences
• Mentor and support a growing team of engineers; contribute to strategy and process development

What We’re Looking For

• Extensive backend development experience (5+ years) across data platforms, automation, or systems architecture
• Strong Python and/or Java skills, plus experience with frameworks like Flask, Django or Spring Boot
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and other structured/unstructured data tools
• Experience ingesting building or device data via protocols such as MQTT, Modbus, BACnet, or similar
• Strong understanding of cloud-native services (AWS preferred), CI/CD, and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Practical understanding of how to deploy, scale, and secure systems in production
• Experience integrating AI/ML solutions into data pipelines is a plus
• Excellent communication skills – capable of collaborating across technical and non-technical teams
